Sunday, October 20th, will see Chandler’s Third Annual Race 4 Unity Family Fun Walk/Run at Tumbleweed Park. Starting at the South Mountain pavilion at 9:00 AM when it is cooler, the course in the Park is only 1.1 miles, it is an easy run or walk. This is a way for East Valley residents of all ages and physical capabilities to gather to celebrate friendship and a acceptance to all people regardless of their ethnicity, religion, race, nationality or other difference.
A spokesperson for the event said, “In a country that is grappling with a culture of hate, we must demonstrate that we do not find that direction desirable. We must stand up and show that we support amity, acceptance, empathy, understanding, and love for all our fellow peoples. We do not accept the inequalities that often exist and feel this must change so that everyone can enjoy the same respect and opportunities.”
Sponsored by the Baha’ís of Chandler and supported by the Chandler Human Relations Commission, the Race 4 Unity allows local families and organizations to support the spirit of cooperation, acceptance, and freedom, upon which our nation was founded. There will be refreshments and music along with a Native American Blessing and a brief presentation on the virtue of unity. The Baha’i spokesperson added, “The simple act of gathering together to promote racial, religious and intercultural unity can spark friendships and healing for all peoples.”

“The Race 4 Unity starts at the South Mountain pavilion in Tumbleweed Park, Chandler at 9:00 AM. It is fine if you do not want to run, a nice walk in the park will make the same statement, bring the kids.” The spokesperson continued, “Everyone is invited so we may exhibit the harmony of different backgrounds coming together. Walking a path together creates a flower of friendship rather than a thorn of hatred.”
